Description GRAPE PICKERS SING TO THE SUN MAGNET The colorful painting on the magnet closely relates to an illustration in Sing to the Sun, Ashely Bryan’s first book of original poems, published in 1992. ASHLEY BRYAN (1923-2022) was the 2022 recipient of the Farnsworth Art Museum’s Maine in America award. Grape Pickers Sing to the Sun, (Oil on Canvas) was a Gift of the Ashley Bryan Center and is now part of the Museum’s permanent collection. Distinguished artist and author Ashley Bryan created more than fifty award-winning children’s books. After serving in World War II, he attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in 1946. Later that summer, he visited Mount Desert and the Cranberry Islands. Captivated by the communal character of life on the islands, which reminded him of stories told by his Antiguan grandmother, he returned to Little Cranberry. It became his permanent home upon retiring from Dartmouth College in 1988.
