A lovely, if rather small-scale representation of this huge late-Cretaceous ornithomimosaur. The feathered sculpt detail is amazing, but I guess 2017 is still relatively recent. I think it’s one from the hugely talented Doug Watson, whose Safari Ceratopsian series remain some of the best low-cost figures ever released (IMO). This Deinocheirus scale works out in the 1:58 ball park, so it doesn’t scale well with too many other figures. But, what I do also like about this one is that you could use it as a reasonably convincing sub-adult alongside a larger parent figure, such as the impressive PNSO Deinocheirus (Jacques). I have suggested this before on some other small-scaled Hadrosaur figures. The eyes are too small to fully complete the illusion of an infant, but work OK if you fancy a little family group. The existing tan and white paint combo is also neutral enough to represent a sub-adult that has yet to moult into the rich colourful feather tones of an adult. Alternatively, the figure could be repainted to make the plumage a closer progression to a ‘Jacques’-based adult. I think this figure is being retired so pick one up before they are gone. Enjoy your dinosaurs!!
